Boutique Hotel Luxury at Montreal’s St Martin Hotel Particulier: Hotel Review

Romantic and modern, ultra chic and sophisticated, Le St Martin Hotel Particulier sits in the heart of Montreal, offering a haven of comfort and charm when visiting Canada’s second largest city.

An unexpected green oasis greeted me as I arrived at the entrance to the hotel…it felt more like I was entering a botanical garden with lush plants cooling the air than a downtown hotel that would be my home for the weekend.  I loved the fun uniform and friendly smile worn by the concierge as he held the door for me and my friend – I knew right away this place was different.  There was a trendy vibe that matched the art deco decor in the lobby.  St Martin is the first boutique hotel that I have stayed at, and they have set the bar high.

I was in Montreal for a girls get-a-way weekend.  I have to say, one of the things that I love about Montreal is that you really don’t need your car.  Park it and forget about it!  Even better, coming by train from Ottawa, the hotel is only a 10 minute walk from the main train station – I left the car at home!  The hotel’s location is also ideal for sight seeing and exploring Montreal.  Vanessa and I arrived early, hit the pavement and didn’t look back as we walked our feet off on the first day.  We returned to the hotel late in the afternoon and appreciated the comfy robe and slippers that were included in our room.  I think it is these little extras that make a stay so much more memorable!

What can I say about this hotel that hasn’t already be said?  The beds were splendidly comfortable and the  vast array of pillows made me feel like a princess as I lay on my bed, contemplating evening plans.  Everything about my room said comfort.  The bathroom was spacious with a nice sized tuba and a sliding louvered wall separating it from the main bedroom.  Free Wi-Fi and an iPod docking station were provided in the room, just as I would expect in a quality hotel.  To keep the princess feeling going, St Martin also offers a 5-à-7 service with a snacks and drinks cart stopping by the room.  A nice touch as we got ready to meet up with the rest of the girls for dinner and cocktails.

Breakfast was included with our room.  With 5 girls in the group, we made our rounds of the menu – the classic 2 egg breakfast was the most popular, but the french toast and crepes with blueberries were equally decadent.  Service was a little slow at breakfast, but after a late night out, so was I!

Another unique feature of the hotel has to be the alfresco feeling of their outdoor patio area – every day, Le Martin rolls out the green carpet in the form of an astroturf patio.  It was a fun improvement over sitting on the sidewalk in the middle of town…it just felt more relaxed to me!  Once again, it is the small touches that really elevated the weekend experience above and beyond expectation.  Sitting out on the “grassy” patio, sipping a sangria, was the perfect way to wind down the weekend as our group dispersed after the weekend.

The hotel has 123 rooms and suites, a gym and a rooftop pool.  Had I checked out the pool at the beginning of my stay, I would have made sure to make some time to sit out on the lounge chairs and go for a dip.  The pool was like a mini oasis (do you see the trend, I saw it too!  Comfort and oasis is the look and feel that this hotel is going for and they have achieved it!).  I stuck my foot in the water on my last day after I had checked out and immediately wished I had time for a swim!  How did I miss out on that?

My stay at Hotel St Martin was part of a weekend getaway with Tourism Montreal.  While I was a guest of the hotel, my opinions are my own, influenced more by the amazing customer service, super comfy beds and great location.  Whether looking for a romantic weekend getaway, or a comfortable stay in the city, I can safely say that Hotel St Martin is completely TDBL approved!

  1. Anita thats one grand looking hotel. The wifey would love me dearly if I was able to get her there and enjoy a nice weekend getaway. Those weekend getaways are just about all we can do at the moment. The rooftop pool sounds awesome and I could surely use one of those drinks right about now.

    • Thomas…I think you are right – your wife will love you dearly for a weekend here! It is well worth the trip! Treat her to the white sangria, or for something extra special, you can get that same sangria with bubbles in place of the white wine!
