Capture the Colour Photo Contest

Travel Supermarket is holding a contest called Capture The Colour and inviting bloggers to select a photo that best captures each of the following colours: BlueGreenYellowWhite and Red.  Thank you to Lisa at Gone with the Family for the nominating Travel Destination Bucket List to participate.

Photography is such a big part of travel – it tells a story, entices the reader to read more, and stimulates both the senses and the imagination, beckoning the eye to look further!  It saves memories and allows us to share our experiences with friends and families….

It was a tough decision to select the photos for the various colours – so many great memories of travels far and near.  I struggled to narrow it down to one per colour.  So many vibrant, colourful shots to choose from….here are my selections for each of the colour categories:

Blue – I love the brilliant blue’s of Europe.  All throughout Arles, where this photo was taken, the windows were dressed in brilliant blue shutters and pretty flower boxes.  The colour of the Mediterranean, blue is one of my favourite travel colours.

summer in France

Green – I spent a week at a lovely little cottage in Antigua.  Everyday, the lizards and birds came to our balcony and we shared pieces of fruit left over from the market.  This little guy was timid and quick – tough to capture before darting away under the green leafy plants.

Caribbean lizard

Yellow – Such a cheerful colour.  It was also a colour that was surprisingly missing from my archives!  My travel photography tends towards landscapes, historical cities and travel to cycling events.  This cheery sail was taken on my first ever paragliding experience in Port Macquarie, Australia.

yellow happy face

White – Travel to Canada in winter, and be prepared for the white stuff!  In an exceptional year of snow, the snowbanks were piled high above my head.  Poses a challenge at times, especially when going to or from the airport!

snow storm

Red – There were many beautiful sunsets to choose from, whether it be the sun setting into the Pampas or wetlands in Bolivia, fire red in Northern Ontario or brilliant oranges in Jamaica – I selected this photo over them all for the memories of the fun and camaraderie that was the embodiment of team.  This was a feisty group of women participating in the Sydney World Master’s Games.  Amateur athletes from all over the world came to compete in Sydney, making this the largest amateur games in the world.  The team spirit was infectious as we gathered before marching into the Olympic Stadium.

Bonus – I thought I would also share a black and white.  While technically, not a colour shot – I love the textures of black and white, where the image speaks so differently than it’s colour counterparts…

cycling Australia

…and the original, taken while cycling along Australia’s Great Ocean Road.

cycling AustraliaI love reading travel blogs – the trips and tales of others inspire me when planning my next adventure….and  when these tales are combined with beautiful photographic displays to further inspire me…..I can hardly resist.  While I follow many great photographic travels, I will try to limit my nominations to those who have not been nominated recently.

  1. Great photos – I especially like the blue shutters, it’s such a French scene! I’ve been trying to pick which photos to submit for this for ages and still no nearer to deciding!

    • Thanks Lucy. I was going to use some of the Mallorca Med shots – but I could not look past the simplicity and vibrancy of the French shutters. Love this shot. It was tough to decide. You have so many great shots – I can see it being a tough decision!

  4. Great choices! I LOVE the blue shutters (it’s a gorgeous photo) but the snow shovelling makes me laugh – hopefully we don’t have to deal with that for awhile!

    • Thanks Lisa. I am partial to that photo too – it just screams France to me. Couldn’t resist the snow shot. While not specifically a travel shot – it can be a problem for airlines, taxis etc…..love having 4 seasons in Canada so would not give it away! But I agree – not ready just yet.

  5. That photo of the snow! I experienced the same challenge during my last winter in Thunder Bay in NW Ontario – and I’m 6′ tall. EVERYthing was buried.
