To date, one of the accomplishments that I am most proud of remains the year I went cycling across Canada. People thought I was crazy. No one would commit to joining me on this adventure – so I did it solo. Had the best time and am so proud of my accomplishment.
It all started when I was still living in Australia. A friend asked me if I was interested in a trip to South America – a place she had always wanted to go. Before long, this vacation had turned into a much bigger deal – plans were made to put all my possessions in a storage locker and spend a year travelling around the world. Slowly, the trip took shape – we would travel together for 3 months in South America before branching off to do our own things. I dreamed of a cycling adventure and here was my chance! I quit my job and embarked on the adventure of a lifetime.
Join me – I will be posting a series on my adventures across Canada – the things I learned, the routes I took and the adversities of a single girl alone on a bike! Welcome to my journey – Cycling across Canada.

Thanks for following my journey as I cycled across Canada. Love to hear your feedback – have you taken on something like this? or perhaps you are planning to!
I so envy you for the journey you are taking! wish I could do this too 🙂 🙂
I wanted to you know that I nominated you for the Versatile Blogger award, and certainly you deserve it. Please see my post from today at “Lens and Pens by Sally” to see the details. Congratulations, Sally
Thanks Sally – I am honoured.
Awesome Anita, I can’t wait to hear more about your trip! Ever since you mentioned having biked across the country I had hoped you would do a post on it. A series is even better though. Looking forward to it!
Thanks Jessica. It really was the most amazing experience – can’t wait to share! Hope to do it again some time, or even bigger – my dream is still to cycle around Australia – Sydney to Sydney! That is a big one – I would really need sponsors and help to do it! I am still dreaming of doing it though! Met someone who did it – it sounds like the ultimate tough challenge as parts of Australia really are so barren – but would be amazing! Have it mostly mapped out! Oh…to dream!
I cannot wait to hear about your adventures:)
Stay tuned….I will be putting the series together and thrilled to share!
Can’t wait to hear about your adventure… sounds soooooo cool 🙂 How long? When did you do it? What was your path? Can’t wait to hear it all.
All will be revealed – lets just say….it was great!
Wow, talk about following your dreams! I look forward to hearing the rest…
Thanks. It was my biggest and most challenging undertaking. Stay tuned….the adventure is only about to unfold!
look forward to reading about your experiences…good on yer..
Thanks. It is a trip I will always cherish. Hope you enjoy as the travels unfold.
Can’t wait for the story to unfold!
“When man invented the bicycle he reached the peak of his attainments. Here was a machine of precision and balance for the convenience of man. And (unlike subsequent inventions for man’s convenience) the more he used it, the fitter his body became. Here, for once, was a product of man’s brain that was entirely beneficial to those who used it, and of no harm or irritation to others. Progress should have stopped when man invented the bicycle.” ~ Elizabeth West
What a great quote!!! Thanks for sharing that. I agree with her – the bike was a brilliant invention for our convenience – even when I am exhausted after a bad nights sleep, if I can ride my bike for only 30 minutes, I feel so much better. Commuting to work by bike always left me feeling better than driving!
I love cycling, I’m a newbie, but I’m hooked! Never giving it up! 🙂
I don’t blame you – I got hooked too! Need a new garage to house all my trusty steeds!!! Love getting out there – biking – it’s not just for kids.
Love your Blog… will follow… and your photo’s are soooo amazing!… You have an excite eye….
Thanks. Love capturing those moments on film, or should I say – megapixels!
Anita – I see you visited our blog. We have been travelling by bike now for just over 1 year – 10,000 miles done so far including West coast USA and then across to Boston. It is good to find people doing similar things – it helps to stop the panics about making a bad life decision. We fly on Tue to Portugal to begin a bike across Europe. I see you are going to Majorca ( our flight is via there ). We usually go to Majorca every year and love it. Make sure you have a good map with you – they are hard to find on the island. There are amazing places to hire top race bikes if you need.
Good luck for your travels. – Warren
Thanks Warren. Have a brilliant map – a German cycling map! Can’t wait – have been training/riding in Majorca for a few years now. You are so right – it is one of the few places I leave my bike at home and rent as they have such good bikes. This year I am organizing a trip for 10 friends – the bike rental place has agreed to deliver! Too easy. Countdown is on.
Have a great time in Portugal – it is another one of my bucketlist destinations for cycling – have heard good things.
Make sure that you do the climb – Sa Calobra. It is one of the greatest climbs in the world – look it up on the web. It will be a day to remember.
Warren
Sounds like a big challenge! Wish I could do something like that. Looking forward to more of the story!
It was a daunting challenge at first – but when you break it down into smaller pieces – totally doable!!! Stay tuned – more of the story coming soon!
