New boots

These boots are made for walking...

Do you know what new boots mean?  It means my feet are starting to get anxious!  While I still plan on doing plenty of cycling, I am really getting in the mood for some sturdy exploration.  Where will my feet take me?

Last time I had to wear in new boots, it was for climbing in the Everest region.  Do I go back?  What about the Canadian Rockies?  Tramping in New Zealand?  Return to the Andes in South America?  The opportunities are endless.

Not sure where I am off to next…but the I know one thing – the journey is every bit as much fun as the destination.

These boots are made for walking…

  1. I love the feeling of new boots. Until you realized you spent a little TOO long in them and develop the “breaking in blisters.” No matter how hard I prep (thick socks, putting bandaids in expected zones) I always end up with them. But I take it with pride that I earned them. 🙂

    • Too true! Last time I broke in new boots I could hardly walk afterwards! Now I just clomp around the house for a few days to start to wear them in, followed by short walks. I just know the first major outing will will bring on the blisters, but I’l always remember that trip! 🙂 Have you every tried vaseline? I have a shoe “problem” and a zillion pairs of heels – using vaseline often makes a big difference! Put it on the potential hot spots and no problems!

  2. I can’t wait to find out where you’re going to take those new boots. My mom and I have been talking about hiking/walking part of the Camino Trail – how about that? There is a great book called The Camino Letters that got us thinking about it.

  3. New boots do take breaking in…
Thanks for your comment on my Bow River blog post! Loved your photos from kayaking in Gatineau Park. Reminds me of home. Funny we never crossed paths in Ottawa — I think you should definitely break in your new boots with some Rocky Mountain hiking 🙂
